The problem with making the right decision

We are without doubt the most comfortable generation. But, we are also the most anxious, depressed and suicidal generation. What is even more disturbing is the fact that people in the so called wealthy communities seem to be doing worse than the average man who is just trying to make a living. You know the problem is serious when the people we look up to are doing worse than the people who are trying to make it.

Since looking up to other people to compare and make our lives better is a bad idea, I have realized the importance of looking at my own actions more severely to be more important. Logically, life is about making the right decisions. The more right decisions I choose, the higher probability I have to say that I have lived life to the fullest.

Once survival is taken care of, then we are stuck in a dilemma of having too many options. And it is the affordability of the options that seems to be the reason to the problem. An average man has to make 100s of minor choices in a day. Most of them, he seems to be taking without even thinking of the effect of. Choices can be from where to eat and what to wear to bigger concerns like what career to choose and what experiences should I try to be happy. And all these choices simply comes down to 2 things:

  1. How to avoid pain
  2. How to increase the amount of pleasure

Most people just want to be recognized, make money and have options open to ensure they are happy. It seems simple enough. But, yet it’s so hard.

The number of options we have today was supposed to make life easier but now we are forced to understand that every choice we make better be the right choice in order to get the most out of life.

So we think hard and break our heads everyday just to make sure we are on track to become the best selves we can possibly be without getting distracted. We have even accepted stress as a part of life. All of this madness is supposed to make us feel like we are climbing to the the top of the world. But what we really want is to accept that we just want to feel the best we can and there is no shame in admitting that. On the contrary, accepting that makes one more thoughtful to at least themselves.

Now here is something to ponder…

Making the right decision is really only an assumption till after the fact. The right decision for me in one situation might be the wrong one for me in a different situation. If I am really honest, there will not be a conflicting choice. Because choices only bothers someone who thinks he knows too much. Knowledge is the enemy to the one who is conflicted by choices. If you have absolute clarity, there will be no choice, you will simply do what the situation requires and what you are capable of.
